'C' Codes

Could anyone tell me if one person is appointed to give unknown Corydoras a 'C' code number.
When finding a new killifish in shipments for example I would use my own code & number.
The reason I ask is I'm starting to import again & a Peruvian collector has found 2 Corydoras sp. not seen before. I'm tempted to bring these in next week. Obviously they will need an identifying code before distribution.
Also, a new Plec has been found which will be sent over along with various armoured catfish sp.
If successful I will try & post some photos later.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think datz - http://www.datz.de (DATZ stands for Die Aquarium und Terregium Zeitung - the aquarium and terrarium periodical) gives them.

You could send them phoitos of your Corys. Their redactor in chief, Rainer Stawikowski does speak english (is quite kind, and really interested in fishes, I've met him a few times)

C-numbers are assigned by DATZ in Germany, as published in the DATZ magazine.

CW-numbers are assigned by Ian Fuller (& Co?) at http://www.CorydorasWorld.com

You can of course use any numbering scheme you like, but if you want other people to actually know what you mean by the numbers, it's probably useful if you use an already recognised system that is published by someone else. And, naturaly, making your own C-numbers up is obviously bound to fail - as the same number will later on be used by DATZ for a different fish.

Thanks for the info. I know Ian & will have a chat if they arrive. I'm trying to get a photo mailed over.
I don't want to create any codes myself as this leads to confusion later on.

There have been a few cases in the past where C-numbers have issued only to find later that these have all proven to be the same species. C105,106,107 and 108 = C. xinguensis. So it is imperative that any potential new species be thoroughly investigated before any identification code is given. And as with most identifications, to have any chance of getting it right and avoiding any duplications, the collection location is of prime importance.

Although plecs & cories aren't really my thing, i do like to see what's new - pics would be great therefore! Hope everything goes well with your imports - actually just realised you're only just round the corner!!!
