Synodontis dhonti

Post by Marc van Arc »

Data sheet of should be deleted (it is already replaced by one of S. irsacae).

Caption of one of the irsacae pictures (still) reads : S.dhonti below

Synonym already done through edit.

I've changed the picture caption, but I am leaving s. dhonti in the cat-elog as we may get a picture for it one day...

That's will be something as the species S. dhonti is based on one (1) single specimen.

However, this also makes clear that I've made a mistake in swapping the synonyms. I'll get rid of the incorrect synonym in the S.irsacae data sheet. Sorry for the extra work.

I see this change hasn't been made yet. So pls don't and delete that data sheet submission.

Apparently I wrote the above while you were implementing the (incorrect) submission.

I will edit the data sheet - which means delete the synonym - after you've replied to this post to avoid further miscommunication.

Maybe I am getting confused. Is S. dhonti now a synonym of S. irsacae or are they two valid species now? The paper I have on this is in a stored away in a box just now and so I can't go and check it.

Hey,

regarding to Wright and Page they are two valid species.

Take a look on these photos please:

http://www.suephoto.pl/index.php/galeria/index/5/136

In first one for example you have fish I believe is irsacae (smaller, below bigger s. dhonti).

Marc,

So do you want me to remove the synonym I presume?

Hey,
yup! :beardy: However I still don't fully understand what is going one between dhonti and irsacae so it's better to wait for more answers :].

Hi Jools,
The fact that you wanted to keep the data sheet of S. dhonti made me think it could (still) be valid. So I read the paper on Lake Tanganjican synos and indeed, S. dhonti is valid (although based on 1 specimen).
Therefore the synonym in the S. irsacae data sheet had to be removed.
I've already done so (except for the description box; don't know how to).

Just now I've also deleted the S. irsacae synonym in the S.dhonti data sheet. So everything should be alright for the time being

Last Sunday I got a mail that the above changes had been implemented, yet the (wrong) synonym is still there?

I misunderstood the request. I removed S. dhonti as a junior synonym of S. irasacae, but I didn't realise I also had to remove S. irasacae as a junior synonym of S. dhonti. It is done now.
