Tiger Pleco?

Post by Plecofanatic1989 »

My mother bought a couple of "Tiger Plecos" from one of my LFS's the other day and I can't wrap my head around it. I was thinking Panaque, but I can't really see the teeth and the upper "lip" is shaped more like Pseudacanthicus/Oligancistrus. I was searching the Cat-eLog going through each genus and determining after looking at a species or two that my fish isn't of that particular genus. Then I reached Hypostomus. H. plecostomoides has a similar mouth IMO and then I saw H. margaritifer and gave up... disgruntled :( .
So my best guess is that they are Panaque L002/Panaque changae. I have no clue. Any ideas??

That looks very much like my L002s, the lines on the head and the dentition look the same, just a bit stressed at the mo. They're beautiful little fish when in condition, but I've found mine to be very aggressively territorial.

Okay, so I'm not insane!! :D Thank you for the ID. The dental arrangement looked similar to my P. nigrolineatus, but the teeth seemed so tiny that I couldn't tell if they were indeed "spoon-shaped".
Thanx again. I'm relieved to know what they are. Now to replecate the environment... ;-) .

By the way, the Badis badis is actually Dario dario.
