Introduction. Rules?

Post by Lansirill »

H'lo. Been keeping fish for a little over a year now, pretty much just community tank staples at this point. I'm going to be shuffling my tanks around a bit soon and trying to make things a bit more interesting, as well as adding in a mostly SA tank (I'll probably be adding in tiger barbs.) into the mix. As far as catfish go I've been keeping skunk cories, otos, two farlowellas (although I lost one last night, he wasn't as well as the other to begin with,) three Mystus bimaculatus, and a clown pleco (not sure if it's the L206 or a maccus.)

I was also wondering where in the world to find the forum rules posted? I saw someone get snipped at for asking a stocking question, and I'd really rather not deal with the same ire myself. I took a look around and couldn't find anything unfortunately.

Hello.

Welcome to the forum. :D

I'm sure there are rules, but I can't find them either. Just make sure you...

* Read the stickies before you post
* Do a forum search before posting, so you don't ask a question that's been asked a thousand times before
* Be polite and friendly

:D

Welcome to Planet Catfish :D

Don't worry about posting - we're here to help - not everyone has the same experience so there aren't such things as daft questions - stocking levels is an important issue (but someone is clearly off the mark if they want to keep a red tail cat in a 2 foot tank :x )

I know a bit about synos & some people might be impressed by what i know, but that is actually very little compared to some other people here. That said, my knowledge of corys & pl*cs is quite poor really  - what i'm trying to say is that there is someone here who'll be able to help you on virtually any catfish keeping issue.

The only thing i'd say is be nice! One or two people have got a bit "angry" & "insulting" in their posts which is not basic good manners. Read what you can in the FAQ section - i still have problems with posting links & have some good advice on why i'm going wrong & how to do it properly - that's just me trying to run before i can walk!!!

Remember English is not always people's first language on this forum (and cultures are different), so they can be misunderstood and could come across rude or blunt, when they do not intend to be.

Always give people the benefit of the doubt...

All great responses. I participate on many fish related forums and I can tell you this much, planetcatfish is among the most civil forums I post in and given the nature of our cosmopolitan membership, few problems seem to arise with regard to understanding each other.

The experts here don't pretend they can walk on water.

As a discus "expert", who can walk on water :an: , I'm nothing compared to some of my detractors. Planetcatfish is my "safe harbor" from some of the electronic forest fires.

Larry - whether or not you are an expert is clearly answered when we look at the quality of discus in the photos you've posted - the camera never lies & i conclude that you definately ARE!

(i've seen so-called discus specialists' fish which weren't a quarter as good as yours)
