New Forum Layout

Post by loachy_406 »

I don't particularly like the new layout because:
1)The page is too wide for my 20' screen
2)There is a big empty space in the middle because...
3)The 'User Control Panel • View your posts • View your aquaria' section has been moved under the 'Board index‹ _ _ _ • ‹ _ _ _ •' section.
4)The search box has been stretched and moved over to the right

I think that I prefer it completely the way it was before. What were the reasons for these changes? I guess I'm aiming this one at Jools.

I appreciate that advertising gets the site money to keep it free for everone, but are these really suitable? :?

I re-arranged it because the layout was broken on certain browsers and the search button sometimes was at the right of the search box and sometimes below.

The page is designed to resize irrespective of browser, operating system and (reasonably) screen size. Can you tell me what you are using and I will test it here - screen size you can get from right clicking on your desktop and selecting properties. Posting a screenshot of the whole screen might also be helpful.

As to the adverts, I will have a look and see if I can remove things like this. I can remove specific sites, but that won't really avoid this kind of thing in the long run.

I'm on a 20' iMac with Safari. I'm running Leopard something. The page is only very slightly too wide, about a mm. It's hard to think of anything to fill the space in the middle, but then we don't want to completely overcrowd the page. Maybe a randomly chosen 'Picture of the day' that links to the bigger image and then back to the species page, like in the Cat-eLog pages already.

Wide screens tend to make liquid / non-fixed width sites look a bit like that. As you will see from the attached stats measured over the last half a million hits, you're also running a rather unusual configuration.

As I think you're saying, there isn't really one size that fits all...

I'm not sure what the big deal is. There is nothing wrong with dating or lesbians, these are natural occurrences in our world. You need not click on the links, so where is the harm?

Still,

I wonder whether anyone, clearly on this site looking for info about catfish (perhaps hoping to meet a few nice catfishes) will be intersted in the mentioned links

They don't offend me, but they are not really fitting to the site - however, this is a matter for Google and not Jools
