Comparable (non-catfish) sites?

A members area where you can introduce yourself, discuss anything outwith catfish and generally get to know each other.

Comparable (non-catfish) sites?

Hi all-
can anyone suggest comparable sites to this, which deal with specific (non-catfish) groups of fish?

I'm familiar with Loaches On-Line, which, whilst not as well-organised as PC, seems to give the most comprehensive info for loaches.

I've failed to find good sites for cichlids, characins, anabantoids and cyprinids etc.- any suggestions please?

I've not been there for a long time, Bas Pels was on there when I joined, as was/is Sidguppy, Yann and Shane amongst others. So maybe one of them can comment on the current status.

Can't help on the others, I'm afraid.

Thanks Mats- can't believe I never tried that! I'd only found Cichlidnet which didn't really have the level of info I was looking for...

The site Matts suggested is the only one comparable I know- regarding American cichlids, that is

I can't comment on malawi, Tanganjica, as I know next to nothing about them.

regarding characins, anabantoids and cyprinids, I'm afraid your best chances are with anabantoids, characins and ayprinids are on one hand for science very interesting (I'm sure) but we hobbyists are not that interested

However, chances are, not all interesting fora are in English. I read the best forum about Apistograma is in German, for instance. However, I never go there

Thanks Bas Pels- I'm not too interested in Malawis/Tanganyikans either so that won't concern me. I kind of agree with you on shoaling fish not being that interesting- I was just looking for a point of reference for species new to me I might see, rather than Googling and getting something like "Fred's tropicals" as top hit. What makes Planet Catfish stand out for me is the way Julian's managed to cater for both the scientific and hobby side of catfish- I haven't come across any aquatic site that's as good, which is why I was just seeing if there were any I'm unfamiliar with that are out there.

The PFK forum is pretty good, as is the UK Aquatic Plant Society Forum.

I'm a member of both of these, but I don't really have time for more than one forum...

There are some smaller more specific sites around like http://www.danios.info/ which have some nice information.

For endlers live bearers there is http://www.endlersr.us/index.php A very narrow focus but lots of help to a specialist in endlers.

I think the equivalent site for cichlid would be The Cichlid Room Companion!!!
Great pics, great articles, very knowledgable people...some very famous people from the cichlid world are on the forum!!

For dwarf cichlids (South American and West African) I would recommend http://forum.apistogramma.com/. No articles or anything there anymore but very knowledgable people on the forum when it comes to identification, keeping and breeding etc. And some great photos too.
