Electric Catfish Not Doing too well- stomach protruding

Post by loque »

Hello All,
My electric catfish stomach looks like he's swallowed rocks or stones. Lately, he seems to be in great discomfort, rolling on his back, swimming upside down & at times, he curves his body like a C-. This is unusual behavior for him. I feed him small feeder fish & medium gold fish. He's been eating when I put fish into the tank, but his stomach is visibly lumpy w/ something large in it that will not digest. In the past, I have seem him eating the gravel in the tank, but that was over 4-5 months ago. And his stomach has been "rocky" for about a month or two.

Any advise will be greatly apreciated. Thank you in advance.

Hey,

i know it may sounds silly but why you haven't remove gravel and rocks back then when fish started to eat them?

I think you just have to keep your fingers crossed and have hope that fish will be able to regurgitate this stones.
Curlying body is really, really bad symptom for me because fish which I saw doing this usually died within few hours. However maybe this is the way of regurgitating? I hope so!

There is also a chance that fish have some kind of stomach disease - a better case since we can try to cure it.
However my bet is on stones and rocks.
Do you have a photo of your fish?

Regards.

Thank you for your reply. I will try to post a pic this evening when I get home from work.

I honestly didn't think anything of him eating the gravel because his stomach was normal then & behavior was normal. He's always been in a tank w/ gravel & have never had a issue w/ eating it. It wasn't a constant eating of the gravel, just something I would observe him do once in awhile. Sometimes, I'd see him push/blow the gravel out of his mouth so I really didn't think too much of it. (And his stomach has been fine until recently). I don't have rocks or small stones in the tank. His belly looks like that's what he's swallowed due to the lumps in it. It almost seemed like he was trying to regurgitate this am, can't wait to get home to check on him.
