FLUVAL 4 PLUS good/bad?

Post by DeLBoD »

Is there any one out there having problems with this filter system?
I have noticed a very bad design fault with this filter and would be interested to hear other opinions.
Basically where the filter compartment attaches to the pump there is a big gap in the seal, the water just bypasses the Bio filter and just goes straight to the pump and out again.
Thanks.

I have a fluval 3 plus, and I have to say it works a treat in a small tank, I checked what you said and found the fault. But, in my filter the water may pass in through that seal you mentioned but then seems to pass back down and up through the medium. Maybe not all of it does but enough for it to be effective. Maybe the 3 and 4 are slightly different?

Fluval 3 and 4 are the same apart from size and flow so maybe I have a bigger gap in the canister hence more water escapes.
Solved the problem now just by adding a rubber O Ring to the gap between canister and pump.
Thanks for the reply jscoggs27. I thought I had a part missing at first.
