Giant Bagarius yarellii

Post by naturalart »

Thought folks might enjoy this: I was prowling my LFS for stuff when I came across a pair of Bagarius bagarius in a small tank for sale. I was surprised because I cant recall ever having seen this species for sale before anywhere. After hurriedly researching the fish and the possiblity of keeping them for myself my enthusiasum waned. I just dont have the resources to devote to their managment. A couple of days later while browsing a news blog, I came upon an article about giant man-eating catfish?! (The Sun, Oct.9 2008). The story in a nutshell is that an individual or number of B. yarellii grew extra-large feeding on the remains of cremated corpses ceremoniously placed in the river. And there have been reports of teenagers being attacked and eaten by these monsters. Dont know how much of this story to swallow but thought catfish people would enjoy the pics regardless. How'd you like to have this in your backyard pond. Practiclefishkeeping has other pics.Image
