Have you named any of your fish?

Post by AlaskanCorydoras »

I run 3 tanks, plus my quarantine tank. A 20 long, 55, and 90. Of my 200 or so fish, only two have names, and they're both common plecos. The Thing that Lurks (and yearns for brains) is so named because he survived a serious bout of fin-rot. I first spotted him when he was half rotted away, and immediately started treating. He's made a full recovery, and is happily hiding in the vegetation of my 90 gallon tank.

The Beast was originally the algae eater for my 20 gallon tank. After my 55 had its PH crash/SO2 incident, he moved over to my 55. Currently the Beast is about the same size as all the rest of the fish in the tank combined (It is a tetra/white cloud/threadfin tank) thus earning him the name Beast.

Which of your fish have names? Why?

I have (nick-)names for some of my fishes - my three are called "Big Spot", "Little spot" and "Stripey" - Big spot is obviously the larger of the three, Little spot is the spotted one of the two I recently added, and Stripey is the other in that new addition.

I also have names for some others:
Gus - my first bristlenose Image
Warren, who is Gus's "husband".
Burt - my large P. pardalis.

I also used the name "Algot" for my (or similar) - it's a pun-name in Swedish, meaning roughly "Algae is tasty".

In general, I don't name my fish.

what a pretty BN!

My pardalis I named Rex cause he seems so prehistoric.

My first two adult male and female BN's I named Bruce and Linda (after Bruce Lee and his wife) and the very first baby BN I found I named Lachlan.

All my bettas and synos are named for characters that Russell Crowe has played in his movies.

I have lots of fish left that need names tho.

Only three of my fish have names. My two Synodontis acanthomias are named C Sharp Major and F Sharp Major, and the sailfin pleco in our tank at work is named Godzilla. It wasn't me who named it, but it did seem appropriate and now everybody calls it that.

I named my Acanthicus hystrix Blackie (after Lawless).
Didn't help much, though - it was killed by a bunch of wasp-like Leporinus tetras... :(

In one tank I have a group of seven Corys who go by the names:
Pugh, Pugh, Barney McGrew, Cuthbert, Dibble & Grubb.
The largest one is Captain Flack.

It makes me chuckle to call the roll at feeding times.

About 10". He died I'm afraid due to my own stupidity :(

I had him/her from very small and was really upset like if your dog died.

It was very sad.

I lost my first fish this year and yeah, you're right, it's a heartbreaker :(

Would have been much worse if I'd had him for a while but I was not paying enough attention when I bought him and he came with a scraped tail that got infected. Couldn't save him no matter what I tried. It sucked.
