S-Lucipinnis URGENT

Post by Phyllonemus »

Hello,
one of my 6 S-Lucipinnis has a thick belly, and is only swimming upside down in a small corner, near the surface.
What's wrong ?

what size tank? what tank mates? whats your water testing at , Ammonia NitrIte NitrAte PH temperature.

Thick as in chubby? as in bloated or as in gravid?

When in doubt I can only say do a water change till we get more info.

No outside contaminant got into the tank?

It hapened after Feeding Spirulina, An hour before that I did a water change.
It looks more chubby to me, and I see that she is becoming less chubby, now.
pH=8
KH=10
No3 <10

Tanksize is 200 Liter
Other tankmates, 6 Tanganyikan Cichlids.

when you did the water change did you remember the dechlor?

when you fed the spirulina did you have anything on your hands by chance on accident? lotion or something?

So are you saying cycled established tank, 0 A 0 NI and 10 NA?

Was the water you added back in as close to same temp as water in tank? Is the temp in tank ok?

Was this spirulina flakes?

I find of all my fish my Tanganyikan cats are affected by water changes most, they really dislike them at the time, and conditioner is all important(as always).

The bloating I doubt would be from this though, must be related to the food somehow.

Water added back has the same temp.
I never use Dechlor, is'n neccescary with this water parameters.
Andy, the only thing i can think about is the Spirulina, i never use lotion, al the other fish did'nt had that problem.
I think problem is solved, this syon was this morning normaly swimming.

Thanks All.

Sorry for the late post :oops:

The only thing i can suggest that i have witnessed is greedy fish eating dry food which hasn't softened & expanded prior to being consumed. It expands inside the fish causing deportment issues & can have serious consequences but often resolves itself before too long. The answer is to pre-soak if this is an issue.

Andy is quite correct that a first precaution should be a water change. Ingestion of something can lead to regurgitation leading to water fouling/rapid deterioration of quality.

Are there no tapwater additives where you are that affect the fish? Chloramine etc
Lou: Every young man's fantasy is to have a three-way.
Jacob: Yeah not with another fu**!ng guy!
Lou: It's still a three-way!

Richard, you don't have to apologise, but thanks anyway

No there aren't fortunately. I live in Amersfoort (Near Utrecht), The Netherlands, and our water specs are very good :thumbsup:
The fish is going better now, the only "problem" i can think about is the food.

Thanks All, Riny
