Spending time to photo/upload photos

Post by Proteus »

Have newfounded respect for any aquatic/wildlife/animal photographers.

Never in my life had so much difficulty with my Canon powershot A560. How the world do people do their photos so excellent. I'm still trying to get mine to be picture perfect.

Have spent 2 days of my free time wrangling down my plecos, taking pictures of them closeup is so hard for a newbie waiting for them to cooperate was so hard too, uploading them to the computer then uploading them to a photoserver.... then doing links.... Mind you, I have not touched the camera for almost a year and have since then switched from a pc to a mac. So the methods are all different to me too.

BUT I'm glad that is almost over, my peace of mind of doing what is the best for my collections, and what to move on from once I find the answers. Just never was a picture person and never will be lol.

My method is essentially: Take LOTS of photos, and hope that at least some are decent.
I do use external flash (with a home-built bounce-cardboard-thingy) on my camera, manual settings, and a small aperture to get the lighting to work for (F/8 or so).

Understanding the correlation between your camera settings and the results you get is important. You may want to get a photography book (e.g. "Photography for dummies" or some other "Begginners" book in photography). And remember that you photos are recordings of light - more light -> better photos.

MatsP:

Advice well heeded, will be heading out to the library and reading up on photography. I don't know if my camera can do the exteral flash thing though.

Neither do I - I'm just telling you what I do. I also bought a new camera about a month or two ago - because the old one stopped knowing that there was a memory card in the camera - which makes it absolutely pointless.
