45 gallon Tall Tank and inhabitants

Post by nvcichlids »

Now I havent been able to get the "color" name of any of my discus, I do keep some catfish in this tank as well, so it should fit fine. List of fish:
2x (pair)
2x (pair)
1x
Then for others:
8 x Discus sp (growing out to go into a 125 soon!) (maybe someone can enlighten me on the "names" of my discus, like pigeon blood, blue diamond whatver they may be)
3x Turquoise Rainbows
many x Danio

Catfish pictures to come, they tend to hide too much as of now.
What's your favorite Dressing~~

what lovely Discus you are keeping,i have never kept them but i read an article about them and one about the Polish Club of Discus Lovers.
from what i can remember there are four species of Discus found in the wild and the rest are cultivated strain's of these.
all the Discus you are keeping are cultivated strain's of the species found in the wild and have recived their name's from breeder's.
in the article it say's tank bred fish are a better choice, because they are raised in an aquarium they wont be stressed getting used to life in one and will be used to human's and veiw us as a sorce of food, accepting prepared food's and being much bolder and not afraid of bright light's,also wild caught fish can be carrying many disease parthogen's that have to be sorted out.
in Poland Red and white Discus are very popular and favoured over other strain's due to them displaying the colour's of the national flag, hope this information is of some use to you.

That's a beautiful tank! I like those rocks too, look very natural poking out of the substrate.
I've found I like discus too but after seeing the price of the only two I've ever seen near here, they're a 'Someday' fish - very pretty though, must be graceful swimmers.
Nice little P.maccus in the one picture, hopefully MatsP's new spawning video has giving your two some ideas :beardy:
Racing, shoes and fish. Nothing else matters. Oh, and bacon.

hi.
i quite often have a look around the offical Heiko Bleher website 'aquapress-bleher',he has vsited a few breeder's in Ontario, one of them was looking after some wild caught Discus for Heiko before he set up a biotope at a show for Hagen.
it dosent actully say he breed's Discus but he dose breed quite a few Catfish species it might be worth taking a look.
but like you say Discus can be a bit pricey.
