L46 information in this months PFK

Hi all,

In this months PFK there is a small peice on P.24 about Zebras.
Chris Ralph responds to a readers letter, asking for advice on attempting to breed using 4 Zebras in a 36x15x12 tank.

One line caught my eye regarding sizing.

Adults (depending on which subspecies they are) can be anything from 7-12cm/3-5"

So do actual subspecies exist? I had thought we had only seen colour variations and they were all still Hypancistrus Zebra?

I've never heard of subspecies either.

Hi. I agree I have not heard of any subspecies, just the variation of L98 with the wavy stipes. I had a look in PFK but I must have the wrong month as I couldn't see the article. The one I am reading is july - august.

There are only two described species of Hypancistrus (H.zebra and H. inspector) and no, there are no subspecies. Why don't you PM dorad (=Chris) and ask him to expand? Perhaps he means the various zebra patterned species?
