Diet for corydoras weitzmani?

Post by Hitch »

Hey

I recently got a group of 5 C. weitzmani, but having a little trouble with the feeding.

i have tried feeding them earthworm sticks, Hikari sinking wafers, Hikari algae wafers and frozen bloodworms. They seem to be only interested in the bloodworms and some interest for the earthworm sticks.

any advice on what type of diet they need? I am assuming they are not carnis?

once i know that I would be able to better wean them into a proper diet.

thanks

Hikari algae wafers are DEFINITELY not intended for Corys.

I'd try other frozen food, if that's the only things they will eat, then that's the only things they eat... Some fish are more finicky than others, and yes, most corys will eat (almost) anything.

You may try Hikari Carnivore . It took my corys less then a week to get addicted to them.

So from a nutritient point of view:...they need a high protein diet?

I have never had any trouble weaning picky eaters into their proper diets, but in order for me to wean, I need to know their dietary requirements. Since the cat-e-log doesn't have info on dietary needs of weitzmani

I use mainly live black worms, frozen blood worms and earth worm sticks. They seem to do very well on these foods.
Live worms of some kind are they key to breeding any Corydoras more easily.

I'm a wee bit confused, here. Having obtained the first group of this species that entered the US, quite a few years back, now - I have never had to feed them anything different than any of my other Corys which are fed a varied diet and do, on occasion get algae wafers and even spirulina tabs, which they relish.

In my experience Corys are just like dogs. The may turn their nose up at what you give them, but when they get hungry enough, they'll eat anything you put in front of them. If that were not the case I'd have a humongous bill for live black worms because given a choice, that's all they would ever eat. lol. - Frank

Hi Frank,
That is true however I'm sure you have seen how liberal feedings of live worms, be they Grindal, white or black worms, all help stimulate earlier spawning. The worms are a prime conditioning food. Not saying there aren't many roads to Rome.
