Am i a loach catfish? am i even a catfish?
Hi guys, Please help if you can, i have looked all over the net to try and identify my fish, but am confused? he seems to look a bit like a loach catfish but im not sure. I will put a picture up as soon as i remedy my camera probs, but in the mean time i will do my best to describe him. He is long and thin, cigar like. length wise he is about 6-7 inchs. He has a rounded edged caudal fin. He has 6 barbels on his face which are quite short. Colour is olive green/brown on top with a paler yellowish belly, no distinct markings. He tends to sit alot on rocks on the bottom of his aquarium but darts vertically to the top of the tank every now and again. When he swims he is quite eel like. He is freshwater and seems to be quite accepting of my other fish. I aqquired him as he was going to be flushed down a toilet, because he kept headbutting the ex owners other fish. Please forgive my ignorance but i didnt have much time to research catfish before i aqquired him. I really just wanted to know what he was so i can feed and house him accordingly. Also if he was poisonous. I realise that not having a picture doesnt help much but if you could give me some idea i would be greatfull Thanx

It would be difficult to say without a photo. 6 barbels is quite common, and the colour/shape isn't very distinctive either - it does sound like a catfish, but could be at least a dozen different species, and it is also possible that it's not a catfish at all.
Possibly: one of the smaller species in - but that's just one of MANY possible options.
