There are 6 pics but one is repeated - if you scroll through the pics from pic 1 using the "next image " feature after 5 of 6 there is no pic & screen displayed wording Hacking attempt"

As an aside is the updated new pic definately this species?

I was thinking the same. Even though the humeral process and long adipose fin looks correct. But shape of head looks a bit weird to me, same as patterning and color. Maybe some undescribed species?

I agree, it looks very similar to the others in the Cat-eLog.

By the way, I think the reason for the "hacking attempt" is that Jools' code for adding images does something wrong if an image is moved to a place in the middle of the sequence [in this case, I think I added the new image as first, and put the old first one as second image - could be wrong there...] - I'm not sure about this, just gut-feel based on what (little) I know about the picture part of the database.

In terms of ID, FWIW, my opinion is that this new pic is of a fish in the caudalis clade

I have not seen camelopardalis with patterning like this , nor the lack of pointedness to the dorsal or caudal fins, perhaps even to go as far as to say, the camelopardalis i have seen show little varience between individuals apart from the actaul layout of the patterning but the theme seems the same, with the same intensity of markings.

Well, the other problem with S. caudalis is that I think I've got a couple of wrong pics in there too. Once I'm home (currently in Harrogate) I will consult my Poll!

Pic 5 interests me - hard to tell really with the fins clamped. Pic 6 seems to be the fish offered as caudalis but might not be but i don't think schoutedeni...

i don't know of another similar species but that doesn't mean there isn't an undescribed one?

I find myself in a similar situation to posts i've made about s. Aterrima - the fish i know or thought of as aterrima is the fish i saw in David Sands' shop & pictured in Sands (CotW & Interpet) but this is not the same fish now in the trade or indeed in cat-e-log

The fish in Sands (CotW & Interpet) as Caudalis is IMO different to the fish in cat-e-log & what is being offered very occasionally in the trade these days. Aqualog shows 4 different 'variations' of caudalis plus a gold marble strain - another group (?) that needs further study & explanation...
