Hi Viktor, no idea why they're called that, maybe Mat can shed some light?

Would estimate this fish at between 6 - 7 " from snout to base of the tail.
But NO WAY I'm netting it out to measure it    ha ha.
The beauty has me worried 24-7 Never been so nervous

Did you mean me? No clue as to why it's called that. And it took me a little while to figure out what the species was. Managed to find it through the "My Cats" section...

Apologise Mats.

i thought if anyone on here could shed some light onto why they are called that you'd be the most likely option.
Yes sir Brachyplatystoma Platnemum / Goslinia.
Didn't know wether to post it under a new topic or my previous ones under Brachplatystoma .....
I'm determined to find out why they are called that now.
Hopefully it's not as macabre as "Planiceps" aka Firewood shovelnose

Hey Rob, do not let yourself forget you are no god - there is only so much you can do and this is called giving it one's best. After that you let go, close your eyes, and hope for the best, I'd say... I just lost a fish - a 2' RTC - I went 6 h one way to get from Connecticut and paid $100 for it, plus gas, tolls, my time, my van depreciation, etc. I lost the fish despite putting in my best effort not to - he jumped out of the QT tank within 10 minutes of getting transferred into the pond. Anyway, just chill...
