Atopochilus dybowskii

Post by MatsP »

Is this a valid species? It's not in Seegers book, it's not in Catalog of fishes. Where does it come from?

[I was trying to find out what size it grows to...]

It's in Fishbase as a synonym of Euchilichthys dybowskii. TL 11.2cm

So, I take it that we should move it...

Edit: I've looked further, and I'm even more confused... ;)

It came from the Congo fishes website. If it's a synonym, then move and update. Sorry, that was my fault, I didn't spot that when I added it. Might be worth a quick check its not very recently been moved out of synonymy.

I have e-mailed John Friel. He's working on a revision, which will probably place it into Atopochilus based on morphology and DNA evidence, but for now it should be Euchilichtys...

I'm renaming...
Edit: Renamed. Moving to resolved.

Or not done... It now occurs that we have TWO Euchilichthys dubowskii... (But clicking the link for it, gives the same species ID 2071). The one I just renamed is species ID 2326. Jools, can you:
1. Remove the errant one...
2. Perhaps add a check in "rename" to see if the new combination already exists...
