Basic computer artistic help needed.
Someone with some reasonable skills with drawing on computers will find this a doddle, but I'd like to add a "map icon". It should be 18 x 18 pixels to match the size of other forum icons.

If you have an image in mind, this will allow you to convert it.

Re: Basic computer artistic help needed.
I have no problem converting it. And if anyone knows of a good map-icon that is free to use, then I'm happy to have that.
But none of the maps I've been able to find so far are particularly "looking the way I want it". They are all showing maps of streets, old maps (for games?) or "character map". Or they are "markers" for adding to maps.

Re: Basic computer artistic help needed.
When you reduce the 256 x 256 bitmap to 19 x 19 pixels, it's not very clear what it is..

Ah, I see.
This one is the one that the Google Maps search uses in Firefox. Something like this?

Re: Basic computer artistic help needed.
It is a marker icon, but I think the default location is an image people will associate strongly with Google Maps, and could be used?

Re: Basic computer artistic help needed.
Appologies, Joe, but I'm not sure what that is supposed to be - I want something that people will immediately recognise as a map, even when it's tiny!

How about the old BBC logo from the 1970's - the yellow on black rotating globe.
Now I've got to find that!

As will immediately become clear, I don't know what I am talking about but how about something like this from here: http://www.animationlibrary.com/animati ... _and_gold/. Free to all apparently.

Re: Basic computer artistic help needed.
Nice one Rick. My pedantic gripes are two things (and I admit that I can be overly pedantic at times):
1. It's 43 x 43 pixels - roughly 4x larger than the 19 x 19 pixels I'd like.
2. It's not really saying "map" - more "worldwide".

Yeah, I was being too retro. Animations like that are way too web 1.0. I know it's a little too big, but what about this:
or
?

Re: Basic computer artistic help needed.
I like the first one of those. But even at 19 x 19, the one we've got now (of my doing) is a tad large [in the bofw_tree page].

Re: Basic computer artistic help needed.
The universal symbol for a map would be a compas rose but 19 x 19 is so small it just looks like a fuzzy dot. The best I could come up with was this navigation arrow.
MAP
