Cory babies - question please

Post by kalija »

Today I found some Sterba cory fry in my filter basket - 2 that are about a quarter inch and 3 that are about the size of smallish newly born guppies (for lack of a better size reference). I put them in a breeder net and they seem active and healthy. I am wondering if I need to worry about the larger size ones eating the smaller ones? I could try to move them into another net but don't want to disturb them more than I have to if they will be OK together.
I don't know how they survived being in the filter - it is a canister and I haven't cleaned it in quite some time. I am assuming they either got sucked in newly hatched or perhaps the eggs got sucked in? Any advice would be much appreciated! I do have "first bites" food but I think perhaps they are already past that stage - could start some baby brines but as you know that takes a while; will finely crushed flakes work do you suppose? I stuck some java fern that have a bit of detritus growing on them in the net for cover and perhaps a nibble.
Thanks for any help!

They can eat powder food like first bites for ages(I've fed them 4 weeks+ so I wouldn't move on to larger foods just yet but baby brine shrimp and such maybe useful as an additional food.

If you keep them in a breeder net, make sure to flush it with tank water as many times daily as you think of because it still blocks proper flow and the water can foul. Also, they need something with a sandy bottom so they can pick the food from it.
