do Kryptopterus bicirrhis and Chromobotia macracantha match?

Post by Bas Pels »

I'm currently decorating a tank 270 * 80 * 60 (h) cm, into a Sumatra tank

That is, rocks are placed, substrate (sand and nutrients for the plants) is placed, driftwood is placed, plants are ordered and due to arrive tomorrow, so now it is time for the fishes

The tank will focus around Chromobotia macracantha and Rasbora kalochroma. However, another very distinct species which can be found on this Island is Kryptopterus bicirrhis

Would this be a good combination? As far as I know, K. bicirrhis does not like their tankmates to be very boisterous, and that is exactly what C. macracanthus are. Futher, do they like some current?

I will have - at least initially - only a few places with high plants, and I think they like to be among plants. Again - am I right?

When you say Kryptopterus bicirrhis, do you mean ? If you do, this species is not found in Sumatra (unless you mean the true K. bicirrhis, which is found there).

HH

Reading your reaction - the true K bicirrhis is normally not found in the shops? That is, the fish sold under that name does not belong in a Sumatra tank.

That is also very helpfull. Thanks

The true is very rarely imported as an aquarium fish (it is a common food fish throughout its range), and grows considerably larger than (which is the species commonly sold as K. bicirrhis).
