African catfish placements...

Post by MatsP »

Similar to another post, this is based on the log from the weekly "Update subfamilies" run, which also reports when it finds something "suspect". This is the list of African catfish that...

Name not matching for CoF data:
CoF has: Parauchenoglanis monkei we have:

CoF has: Dinotopterus gigas we have:
Ferraris 2007 and others changed the name.

CoF has: Chrysichthys cranchii we have:
Chrysichthys in CoF and Fishbase, ref: Ferraris 2007.

Thoughts appreciated?

There is some discrepency(grey area) among authors and after much deliberation it was my decision to have things as they are.

Let me look at what has gone on recently with this (we actually have both).

CoF has: Dinotopterus gigas we have: Bathyclarias gigas
Ferraris 2007 and others changed the name.
Dinotopterus has as a main character a developed adipose fin...B. gigas does not have this I believe...I would need more recent paperwork on this.I could look more into this as well.
CoF has: Chrysichthys cranchii we have: Amarginops cranchii
Chrysichthys in CoF and Fishbase, ref: Ferraris 2007.
Some of these have been thrown around so much...it could and probably should go to Crysichthys.

I think all is in order now:

cranchii moved.

B.gigas is from Lake Malawi, it stays.

Moving to resolved.
