C.loxozonus White patches

Post by catfishchaos »

Hi every one!

Last week I bought 6 C.loxonus from the LFS I work at after carefully expecting them and seeing nothing wrong I decided to bring them home. I Introduced all 6 into my well established, healthy 55 gallon Amazon tank. One of the 6 specimens has developed two white patches (one just above the snout in between the eyes and another on the right gill plate making a more noticeable bulge than than the on the in between the eyes). I know you guys need pictures and I'll be posting some when I get home tonight. It isn't fluffy like fungus and its way to big to be ick so Im kind of stumped :-\

Tank: 55 gallon
Substrate: Seachem Onyx sand
Tank mates: 7 Lemon tetras, 17 glass bloodfin tetras, 11 penguin tetras, 7 L134 (peckolita compta), 4 L103.
Decor: tons of Malaysian drift wood
Plants: Amazon swords over 13.
Temps: 77-80 F
Filter: Fluval 306 External canister
Ph: 6.5-7 haven't checked it for a while, I check it again tonight
Heater: Fluval M200
Action taken: Put into 10 gallon hospital tank bare bottom, Fluval C4 filter, Fluval M50 heater.
Medication: None
GH/KH: unknown but can get if needed

Please help as much as you can with whats given, Pictures and test will be added/updated tonight.

Thanks in advance
James

Treat with Furon2 as recommended on the package. It is probably some type of fungus!

Update: I talked to my manager and he told me these are as WC as they get, not dewormed or anything.

The one that had the white spots has recovered and is back to normal but now a different C.loxonus is showing the same symptoms (white patches on face). I'm going to put her into the hospital tank once I clean it out tonight. I will be posting actual pictures of the problem tonight as this cory has been much more cooperative than the last.

Also looking for a medication recommendation deworming and process would be nice as well (administration, duration, diet ECT)

thanks for the reply RC, I thought it might be fungal but I don't want to assume anything and treat it if its not necessary (I hear corydoras don't react well to most medicative procedures). If its Identified as fungal then I will definitely be following your procedure!

Could be fungus or bacteria. You can use a combination of API Furan 2 (Nitrofurazone) and Seachem Kanaplex (Kanamycin) to treat. Do not combine with anything else, except perhaps a very little salt. If you want, although you probably don't need to, you can add 1 tablespoon of salt for every 10 gallons of water. The treatment outlined above should be attempted in a hospital tank ONLY. This should NOT be done in the main/show tank.
