Fallout of the resize for small screens

Post by bekateen »

Hi Jools,

Now that you are cleaning up the presentation for small screens (which by the way is looking good), I now see three issues which arise when a person is viewing an individual species' (clog) page:

1) There is absolutely no header or link across the top which would enable the viewer to go straight back to the home page.
2) The species search window is gone.
3) The little icon for the links to CotM, Cat-eLog, Shane's world, Forum, etc... becomes oddly positioned, partially concealed as it lays over the main photo of the species (at end of red arrow in photo).

Obviously, it us up to you programmers to decide what is and isn't realistically feasible to present from page to page, but if I can offer these suggestions, I think it would be desirable (functionally speaking) to have the two missing features (a direct link back to home page and the species search window) always visible to the user, perhaps floating above the feature that (in my example) says "Cat-eLog>Callichthyidae>..." Re: the third point (about the position of the menu icon), this is more trivial.

I hope this doesn't seem too picky, given all the good things you guys are doing to fix up the site.

Cheers, Eric

There is now.

I am working on this.

Thanks Jools. I just visited a species page and the header and search window look nice.

Thanks, Eric

We shall see, I am still testing it on all platforms, it's a bit fiddly to say the least!

Three hours of fiddling with this and it looks OK on small screens (i.e. phones/small tablets) but there is too much white space at the top of the page when viewed on a larger screen. I have to leave it there for now, out of time for today...

I've got this to a point where I think it's OK. Not perfect, but usable. Moving this one to resolved but will likely revisit layout when a few more issues are fixed.
