An upside-down spawning mop for explosive egg scatterers
Hi All,
I've been trying to find a better way to catch and collect the eggs released by my banjo cats. What I've come up with is a modified spawning mop, essentially a weighted, upside-down mop, which rests at the bottom of the tank instead of floating from the top; it is also has a float which can be used to alter the depth of the mop . Attached are photos of the mop being made and once it's in my aquarium. If anyone is interested, I would be happy to share my assembly, with instructions and step-by-step photos.
To be fair, it's nothing earth-shattering, but I've never heard of anyone else using it, so I think it's pretty cool. It also works well with my C. trilineatus, which like to spawn near the substrate in my tanks.
Cheers, Eric
P.S. If this has already been created before, I apologize for not knowing about it.
P.P.S., Yes, in that last photo, there's a frog (just to the left of two of my banjos). I know this is a catfish website, but I gotta have my frogs too!

I see that sinking spawning mops are nothing new after all:

I suppose if there's any innovation in my mop, it may be simply be the simultaneous integration of a weighted bottom and a floating tether on the same mop, allowing me to adjust and control the depth of the mop... But I'll bet that's been done before, too. Such is life. Oh well, as long as it works, right?

That's what I thought in the first place. Whether it is new or not, it is still a good tip

Re: An upside-down spawning mop for explosive egg scatterers
Thanks, Bas Pels. For two years now, I've been pulling out every rooted plant with eggs and using a turkey baster to vacuum loose eggs in order to remove the eggs from the parent tank. And of course uprooting plants repeatedly isn't good for the plants. Yep, getting a well positioned mop is better.
