No I am not writing a Dr. Seuess book on catfishes. We talk alot about low water or the dry season and high water or the wet season. I thought this picture would give people that have not been to South America an opportunity to see what the difference is. These are two pictures of the same hut. The first taken in the wet season (March 2003) and the second in the dry season (November 2003).
The second thing we talk about a lot are blackwaters and white waters. This is the confluence of a small blackwater river (on top) and a small white water river in the Amazon. The difference is not just the color of the water, the two types of water are very different chemical compositions.
"My journey is at an end and the tale is told. The reader who has followed so faithfully and so far, they have the right to ask, what do I bring back? It can be summed up in three words. Concentrate upon Uganda."
Winston Churchill, My African Journey
the meeting of the negro and the amazonas(I believe) just outside of manaus has a miles long line of the mixing, it's something I'd love to see in person.
Yes this is so incredible... I remeber when I was in Barcelos, I had to walk on a bridge that was under the water. It was so impressive how in one night the amplitude could change...
Scott: this is surely something to be seen... you can also witness the same when the RIo Branco meet with the Rio Negro... with Boto swimming ...God do I miss that time there...

Yes Boto is the amazonian dolphin, at least one of them , the commonly encoutered pink/grey longnosed dolphin. Another species called by locals is the "Tucuxi" which just look like a dwarf marine common dolphin... they are so cute...a bit more rarer... also behave more like marine dolphins...
