I need some help sexing my featherfins (synodontis eupterus)
The one to the left is fully mature and unbelievably swollen/fat/gravid.
And the one to the left is around 7-8 months old.
I cannot figure out by looking at the papillae what genders they are, but maybe anyone of you have an idea?

Re: Sexing my Featherfins
Hi, the best for sexing Synodontis for myself is a photo from the side or hold them with a net for viewing the genital papillae from the side. Most Synodontis males in good shape if viewed from the side have this or similar
Males from the side also look longer and thinner generally.
Females from the side look chunkier and seem shorter between the pelvic and anal fins.
Eupterus are notorious for turning into ping pong balls, males or females...a swollen belly may only mean it eats the most.

You can easily see the papillae sticking out between the anal and pelvic fins, making this a male nigriventris...females will not have this. Some species are more difficult to see this difference but yours will be as in the photo.Males from the side also look longer and thinner generally.
