Any other ALBINO CORYDORAS seen or produced?

Post by Phish »

Only albinos I've seen are Corydoras aeneus and albino Corydoras sterbai.
I don't expect to see any other albino Cory species for wholesale, but was just curious if anyone had a rare albino offspring. If so, a picture would be a treat to see! Make sure to mention what species it is.

I know they will all pretty much look the same, just slight different physical features, but still cool.

Heck, I don't mind seeing a rare albino whatever genus or species of fish. Post a pic!

There is also albino Corydoras paleatus that is also regularly found.

Albino Corydoras panda have been produced but they aren't that attractive and are not commercially produced.

Ahh yeah, I forgot that I have seen albino C. paleatus.

Thanks for the response!
Haven't seen that albino panda before.
Some of the other panda's in the link have black eyes, but no black body markings though. What's the proper term for that?
I guess just Leucistic according to the definitions here;

There is a cool albino Kuhli loach in one of those pics as well haha. I got one of them as well!

Here are some photos of albino and xantistic C paleatus.
These fish are kept by Aad Mechielsen, who has given me permission to post the pics here but he retains copyright.
Aad only has the one 'Yellow' but hopes to try breeding her with some of the albinos.

Regards,
Paul

Thanks Paul and Aad Mechielsen for sharing those pics!

The dorsal spine on the 'yellow' female looks pretty tall.

Is there a known cause for 'yellow' albinos?
I myself have had a few yellow albino C. aeneus, stayed that way a good few months, but eventually turned into the normal white albino coloration. I couldn't conclude what caused the yellow color, as I've had different lineage C. aeneus albinos even in the same tank/water conditions, fed same diet and all (same lighting, substrate and background, etc), yet there was a clear color difference.

I've seen other yellow albino C. aeneus in other youtube videos as well (it wasn't skewed color contrast on the vids, they were actually yellow)

Perhaps I should post a separate thread asking about the yellow coloration.

Curious as why some green Corydoras also can turn black (besides darkening due to dark environment/surroundings - ie substrate and background), even when on light/white sand, correct water parameters, healthy and spawning. Noted mainly in bronze/wild C. aeneus and C. venezuelanus

Aad's 'Yellow' is not an albino - it has black eyes and it has been yellow for years. In the same way that BN plecs can be albino or yellow (sometimes described as L144) it is believed to be a different gene mutation.
I think it is termed xantistic or xanthoristic, but perhaps someone can correct me on that.

I think many catfish can change their colour slightly in response to conditions and moods.

The most recent Amazonas briefly mentions albino C. pygmaeus. Don't remember if it mentioned whether they're commercially available yet.
