Help sexing L134 please

Post by djdamo123 »

Hey guys I just wanted some help sexing one of my L134s. The other one is a male but I am not 100% on this one. I originally thought female because of the orange on the vent but now I'm thinking male because of some small hairs showing. All photos are of the same fish.

Thanks

Welcome to Planetcatfish. Sexing Peckoltia Compta, when they are not in breeding season can be tricky. My guess would be female.

If your fish should always be hiding at this spot, you may want to offer some better hiding spaces in your tank.

Cheers

Thanks for the fast reply. The male uses one of the caves and there is another cave and 2 bits of driftwood but this one moves around the tank all the time. "Her" normal spot is under the drift wood but from time to time hides near the sponge. It does give me a chance to have a good look at it.

From your description of it's behavior I would really think it is a female. feed them well and you should see some spawning activites in the future.
