Prazipro with Ancistrus cf. cirrhosus?
Prazipro with Ancistrus cf. cirrhosus?
Hi All,
I have a pair of green dragon bristlenose in with some puffer fish, and I need to treat the puffers for internal parasites. I'm going to start with Prazipro dosed either in the tank water as suggested or in the puffers' food. Either way, the plecos will be exposed. Will this be harmful for them?
Thanks very much,
Astrid

Re: Prazipro with Ancistrus cf. cirrhosus?
Hi Astrid. I've used PraziPro on a number of pleco species (including some Ancistrus)without obvious negative side effect.
That said, I've heard people claim two concerns about this medicine that I can neither confirm or refute: (1) it is only effective if ingested (I.e., just adding to water doesn't help) and (2) it may cause sterility in corys.
Again, I have no personal experience to confirm or refute these claims, but if they worry you, I'd encourage you to keep asking other questions. Perhaps there is a vet in your area that can address these issues.
Regards, Eric
P.S., some of the plecos I've treated with PraziPro have spawned successfully multiple times, so I don't worry about sterilization if plecos. That's my most relevant personal experience.

Re: Prazipro with Ancistrus cf. cirrhosus?
Thanks very much, Eric. I really appreciate your fast and helpful response. That's good to know both about the plecos and corys, which I should have mentioned. I'm glad to hear it doesn't affect reproduction in plecos, as my pair have already had one successful spawning prior to this situation. I do have a bunch of Corydoras paleatus in that tank, too, so they will definitely be exposed, very good to know. What about using it with Synodontis nigriventris, killis, and tetras? Any thoughts/advice there? Thanks again!
Astrid
