Maximum Corydoras in a 170 - 180 litre tank
Hi all,
Just wondering what would be a approximate maximum of cories i could have in a 170-180 litre tank.
The tank is running Eheim experience 350 external canister filter and a big internal sponge filter.
I currently have 2x glass catfish, 18x neon tetras, 4x rummynose tetras, 3x silvertip tetras, 3x rosy barbs, and about 5 - 6 medium bristlenose. Some driftwood and anubias.
I am looking to get up to 40 corydoras, but 6 or 7 different species and they all stay small. Pandas, sterbai, pygmy, adolfoi, peppered hi-fin, bronze and black venezuelan.
Are my eyes too big for my stomach or will they be ok with weekly water changes.
Thanks for any input.

The half dozen ancistrus you have already will give a singificant bioload for that size tank, plus a lot of bottom-dwelling territory. And that’s before they start breeding.
While I love big herds of cories, I think you don’t have much space for then with the existing inhabitants.
What percentage water would you be thinking of changing each week?
Regards,
Paul

Appreciate your reply, ok well i do plan on selling off the bristlenose as i have way too many. They are in most of my tanks. I don't have caves for that reason as i don't want them to breed at the moment. I think if i take out the B/N that would free up some space.
I think about 33% of a change, could even do more.

Thanks!
I think I’d be looking at a herd of about 20 Corydoras in a 180L tank with a moderate number of other fish I normally do water changes of about 50% per week or 30% twice-weekly.
I would recommend getting all the same species, or two similarly-marked species that are found together in the wild. They’re much more entertaining in large numbers.

Paul

No problem,
Ok i might need to do the hard call and not get a few species. It's sad when we can't have all the fish we want.
Yeah that is a good idea, fish always look nice in a school.
Thanks again
