Is my tank suitable for a zebra?

Post by ali_uk »

Hi,

I have read all the info on the zebra from this site, and I think my tank would be suitable, but would just like any advice from you guys!

I have a 360L tank and an external filter that turns the tank water over about 4 times an hour. Water chemistry: ammonia and nitrites 0, nitrates between 10 - 20mg/L, pH 8.0, GH 16 & temp 25. I do weekly water changes of around 25%. My other fish: 8 rainbows, 8 danios, 1 south american puffer, 4 horsehead loaches, 1 ghost knife, 1 sturisoma and 1 spotted dora (rarely seen!).

Do you think a zebra pleco would thrive under these conditions?

Thanks in advance.

pH and GH are a bit too high IMO.

Hello,

I wouldn't be too concerned about the pH and GH. Remember that these fish have spawned in a lot worse. The temp and the possibility of aggression with the loaches would be my biggest concerns about adding them to this tank.

Hey,

I keep my Zebra in PH 7.6, GH 12 and temp 25C and she shares her tank with 1x Peckoltia vittata 1x Sturisoma 4x Corydoras agassizii and numerous Chain botia... all without a scrap of aggression (they even sit on the the same wafers/pellets/courgette). As long as she has a hole or crevice to call her own i think shes happy... she hands feeds (yes, it did take a while) and comes out in the daytime!

Hope this helps :)

Do the horseface loaches become aggressive as they grow? They are small at the moment (about 2") and are very placid!

Thanks for your replies.
