ID Help: Small Black Pleco with Yellow Spots

Post by Tabicat28 »

This Pleco was labeled as a snowball pleco when I bought him, but after some research I found snowballs usually have white spots and this guy has distinctly yellow spots. He's about 2.5 inches right now. He doesn't usually stick to the glass on my aquarium so I haven't been able to get a good look at his mouth. I've discovered there are many varieties of black Pleco with yellow spots, but am not familiar enough to identify the distinctions between them. Can anyone confirm if this is a snowball or suggestions on what else it could be? Any tips on how to recognize distinct characteristics I could look out for (in appearance or behavior)? Thanks in advance.

The yellow vs. white color of spots is not thst helpful a trait.

Looks like an or maybe . Seeing the dorsal fin flared would help confirm.

Thanks, I'll try to get a better picture tonight. Any chance it could be L471 or L007?

The whole "201" - "201 big spot" - "471" thing is ambiguous at best for me. Definitely not Leporacanthicus.
