Re: C. Aeneus Spawn
Good egg layers, but good chunk of the eggs are duds. But got a little handful of hatches tonight!
I picked out the bad eggs from today and they started hatching while I was working

So cool to actually witness this

Re: C. Aeneus Spawn
That's my experience with a lot of the corys that lay lots of eggs in piles.
Cheers, Eric

Ever see this? Is there a cause? I did not expect corydoras to hatch as premies. Premie up top, normal 2 day old below.

Re: C. Aeneus Spawn
No, but I've seen babies so weak they couldn't get out of their egg

Re: C. Aeneus Spawn
I'm gonna give them a few days, if they develop then great, if not, then I will kindly cull them.
I had a few not get out of the eggs before, but ive not seen ones hatch undeveloped. Ive got 4 this batch hatched like this, though they also could be the trilineatus hatching earlier than they were supposed to as well.
I didn't think fish could hatch early.

Re: C. Aeneus Spawn
Only one premie baby survived the night and has developed a little better and is now mobile. The others have not made it. But it could be for the best as who knows what problems they may have had being underdeveloped.

Usually applied to human babies, but born too early?Corycool wrote: 09 Sep 2020, 01:52 Sorry, please accept my ignorance, what exactly is a premie? I've been keeping Corydoras for years but have never heard of the term.

Re: C. Aeneus Spawn
Thanks for response. You must be speaking in North American English ? We just say ' premature ' in England. LOL. Anyway, out of the over 200 eggs laid, how many fry are surviving ?

Yes I'm over in Canada lol premature is the formal term, but often shortened to premie.Corycool wrote: 10 Sep 2020, 21:48 Thanks for response. You must be speaking in North American English ? 27 hatched, thats so far doing alright, I'm at maybe 25? I think the premature fry were my trilineatus eggs in the same tank.

Re: C. Aeneus Spawn
These guys are doing good, eating adult foods, almost adult coloring fully in, a couple at an inch long now.
I kept one little guy for myself, hes got a funny tail like he has extra tail fin rays, so keeping him so someone else doesn't breed him. He's really dark in colour too. Mom in the background of the one photo
They are putting out some impressive colour
