Error message when mapping occurrences in Loricariidae
Hi Jools, I observed this morning that every Loricariidae species I checked is giving a map error message and then failing to plot occurrences.
I noticed it first with . I presume it's either from a species update that altered a manually-edited lat/long, or from a new species added, but I'm not sure.
Cheers, Eric

Never mind. It seems to be fixed now... but not entirely. The genus Hypostomus is not mapping, so I suspect an error there.

Re: Error message when mapping occurrences in Loricariidae
I believe I found the problem, .
First, it includes a bearing, which the website interpreted as latitude. So with that error, the website then interpreted the correct latitude as longitude:
Computed Latitude: 269
Computed Longitude: 3.7519444444444
But making matters worse, the real longitude lacked a directional designation (West, not East).
I've updated the type locality manually and submitted a CLOG edit.
Type_loc_lat: -3.7519444
Type_loc_long: -73.2830556
Cheers, Eric

Re: Error message when mapping occurrences in Loricariidae
Eric,
It's not a data problem. I changed how the mapping works ahead of the introduction of overview maps. If your browser decides to use the old javascript ("multimap") then this error may happen once per page type (e.g. species, genus, sub-family, family). However, it might not.
I've checked the pages you mentioned and they work fine for me, so I think the issue is resolved?
Cheers,
Jools
PS Thanks for fixing the lat/long data in the Hypostomus sp.!

Re: Error message when mapping occurrences in Loricariidae
Hi Jools,
The Pseudacanthicus page was working yesterday after one visit, but the Hypostomus page was definitely broken, with 269 as a latitude.
The page is displaying for me now. I see the lat/long updates were added.
I visited the species page for hemicochliodon repeatedly yesterday and it didn't work ever, and neither was it working for the genus. This reminds me of a Hypostomus problem we had before. Now that the species works, the genus works.
Cheers, Eric

OK, well, it must be a coincidence then. Good to know they're both fixed - two for the price of one!
As ever, thanks for reporting,
Cheers,
Jools
