Heteropneustes sting in Bangladesh

Post by BomNya »

Well, who here has been stung by Heteropneustes?! I got one 2 weeks ago in a swamp in Bangladesh, and I have to say, it hurt like hell, and two weeks later, my index finger is still in a lot of pain and cannot fully bend to make a fist! Anyone here know how long this is going to last? I am back in the states and considering going to a doctor!

Cheers!

Hi Ryan,

I've never been stung by one, but your narrative makes me wonder: did a part of the spine break off in your skin (and is still there)?

Cheers, Eric

It may have? I think I pulled a really small piece out a few days ago with some tweezers. There may be more deeper? Perhaps I will have someone do a deeper dig than what I could do with my left hand and weird angle.

I have to say, I've been stung by madtoms and Scorpiniformes, but this one takes the cake for pain!

Sounds par for course for a Heteropneustes sting; been there a few times. The pain and swelling usually last a few days, but your case seems severe. Might be best to consult a doctor.

Major: Now what's this... stone, stone, stone, (looks down at his hand) and scissors. Now. Scissors cut everything, don't they?
Sergeant: Not stone, sir.
Major: They're very good scissors!!
