Yellow on Kryptopterus minor?

Post by Chrysichthys »

I was looking at the glass cats in the LFS today and I noticed that some of them (not all) have a translucent yellow patch on the skin over the skull, and extending back over the dorsal area above the internal organ 'cluster' to a variable extent, depending on the individual fish.

What is going on here? It doesn't look like a dye job.

Are you sure those are K. minor? They might be , which sometimes have a yellowish sheen.

Reasonably sure, because they don't have bands on the flanks. Apart from the yellow, they are transparent like K. minor. But the yellow on the second thumbnail of macropterus, although more extensive, does look similar.

I suppose they might be a hybrid of the two, but there's no real way to find out.
