No pic but a description...need to know how to care for it!

I got what I think is a catfish yesterday but I can't find any pictures like it. It is brown and has dull yellow spots along it's head. It doesn't actually have any whiskers though (although it could have - it is possible that the previous owner put it in with a fighting fish) but it has lots of spiky bumps all over it's head. It is a sucker, doesn't really do much though, just sits on the bit of log in there.
I don't know what to feed it - right now we only have goldfish flakes and granules - will granules be better because it's a sucker? I really don't know much about fish - we've only had goldfish - and I don't know how sensitive this one is. The second fish we had (a silvery striped fish - not catfish) just died a little while ago, don't really know why, assuming the stress and changes to it's environment. Any info would be great, regarding anything from species, family, food, suitable tanks and filters, anything.
Today we bought a large tank and a filter that sits on the side (like in Nemo) but he is still in a rather smallish tank, but with the new filter at least. I have those drops that remove chlorine or whatever they should remove, but do I need to watch temperature, ph and anything else carefully?? Sorry that there is no picture and a lot of questions, I just don't want this one to die to and I can't find too much undertandable info! Thank you sooo much for any help!!!!

Could you take a look through the catElog and find a catfish with the same shape body ? How many fins does it have ? What is the tail shape of the fish ? A bit more info on the fish is needed without a pic. :?:

Ahhh I just spent so long writing a reply describing the fish, cos I can't find any pics, and I found it on another site! Bristlenose catfish, it's like an exact picture, I'm so happy :) Thanks for helping jurassic_pork!
