Catfish identification help

I found this little guy in a local lake inside of a muscle shell. I brought him home and put him in my tank. SInce then he has grown up a bit and peaked my curiousity. Can anyone help me out in finding out what kind of fish this is???

I think it's a freckled madtom (Noturus nocturnus).

Freckled madtoms are found in slow- to moderately flowing streams over sandy/gravel bottoms, usually in areas where there are lots of logs, leaf litter and other sunken plant debris.
Like other madtoms, they feed on aquatic invertebrates and should not be too difficult to adapt to most fish foods.

I also did some research on the species you listed. I don't know if this is the one your talking about though, if you look at the pictures of the one you mentioned, the tail fin is not as pointed, it's more square. The fins on the bottom are also more distinguished on the one you mentioned.

Perhaps it could be a maturity thing???? He shouldn't be a year old yet.

The shape of the caudal fin in your fish is probably due to damage, as madtoms usually have squared off or slightly rounded caudal fins.

Someone else suggested a tadpole madtorn ... what do you think??? I think it looks a lot like the fish they are suggesting.

I cannot see the head, but it does not seem rounded enough to be a tadpole madtom. The body is also a little too slender for a tadpole madtom.

I agree, it doesn't look tadpole-ey enough to be a Tadpole Madtom. Could you take another clearer picture. It looks as though your fish may have White Spot ('Ich'), but another pic would help to be sure one way or the other.
