Aggressive Syno

Post by malawi4me2 »

I have a Malawi cichlid tank that houses a 5" S. Brichardi. I was told at the time that I purchased this Syno that they are a very docile and peaceful species, but would do well with the notoriously aggressive cichlids as long as there were plenty of hiding places. My Syno does hide most of the day as expected, but when the lights go off it becomes very active and aggressive towards my other fish. It chases all of my cichlids around the tank and fights with one of my large males (P. fenestratus "Taiwan Reef") one of the corners of my tank. None of my fish seem to get injured during this, but why would a S. Brichardi be so aggressive? I've re-arranged the rocks and it did not seem to help. Has anyone else had this problem with a S. Brichardi?

Hi!

Maybe you can give some more info on your tank? like size, other fishes etc. or a pic maybe.
Does the Syno get enough food? And is it a real S.brichardi?
cheers

It's 60g. and has two P. fenestratus, two D. compressiceps, two A. hansbaenchi "Red Shouldered", two juvenile O. lithobates, and one A. sp "Sunshine Peacock" (Did have two, but the male died. I'm replacing him soon.). Also two very small leapord pleco (They don't have any problems with the syno.) The largest of my cichlids is only about 3 1/2" long. I am positive that it's a brichardi, that's why I'm puzzled! The syno gets plenty to eat and has a varied diet. I bought it because I was afraid the S. schall would be too aggressive! I don't have any pictures of my tank.
