Mystery Fish

Post by silvernes »

My digital has gone M.I.A. so I'll do my best to describe my new buddy until I can find it.

Generally:
He looks very much like a common native north american catfish

Colouration:
Black top with slight brown spot under-tones, white belly

Whiskers:
2 longer wiskers on outside, 4 short inner wiskers

Finnage:
All black; short dorsal, trapazoid caudle (tail), triangular anal, rounded ventrals*, solid black pectorals
* look very much like a fish that breeds & then places it's eggs using it's ventrals (as most catfish do :))

Behavirous:
So far it hides from my oscar... (she's kinda crazy) but the new dither fish have her re-occupied now, it actually spends alot of it's time on the glass, not attached at all, just swimming upwards against the glass & has taken to eating my oscar's chichlid staple pellets (part of the reasons she doesn't like him :D)

Size:
It's about 5"BL, 6"TL right now, I'm not sure how big it will grow - I just picked him up last night

Thanks for any help you can offer :| I really just need someone to point me into the right directions if no one can figure it out (I know my description is ammazing).

What shapes are the head and snout? Rounded? Flat?

rounded head, terminal mouth (meaning it's forward-facing)

my best description is really that he looks like a native north american catfish. Like one of those big 'ol catfish you go fishing for & fry up. :)

Probably a black bullhead (, then). Are the chin whiskers white or brown?

*ding, ding, ding*

Now I am impressed

That's totally what he is!! Except... 24"??? what did I get myself into??? He's in a 120 gallon with my 2 baby oscars (7" each :D) and a little comon pleco (6") . Is he going to have enough space??

Also about feeding him: his belly has swollen up some since he started on my boy's chichlid staple pellets ( His first tank-mate, my 1'2" oscar wasn't too happy about that!!) It just looks like he's had a good meal. Is this healthy for him to gorge himself like that? Or do I need to be more careful about how much leftovers he gets to eat?

Thanks!

Nes.
