Questions about Synodontis Decorus

Post by squishlax »

I recently purchased a baby one because I have had my eye on them for a while, well once cycled into my tank it was very active, searching about and found a place under one of three bogwood pieces I have in my tank. Well, it isn't hiding where it was before, or under any of the other pieces that I can tell, I've picked them all up to make sure it was still in there because I've had a whiptail disappear before - I'm assuming it died and was eaten by the large pleco I had at the time, but I recently got rid of the pleco and had room for the Syno. decorus, which is why I bought him.

Ok, long story short, is there a way I can coax it out to make sure it didn't croak and just get eaten by the other fish?

Apart from tearing down the whole aquarium, you can feed the fish with the lights off in both the tank and the room. Using a flashlight you should see the decorus eating if it is still alive.

What other fish are in the tank?
Sometimes moving sticks and rocks about creates more damage than good, for me young syno's seem to dive under them before you even set them down so it is easy to set something on top of a fish.

I have 2 Opaline Gouramis, 2 Honey Gouramis and a 4" Chinese algae eater.

Tried the whole lights off thing, still no luck.

Read the CotM artcle on them, it says they are extra shy, Have patience and just make sure there is a little food for it at night.

Good luck

I have decorus, and I feed them after the lights off. They do well.
If you turn the lights off, and do not move in front of the aquarium, then they will eat. And try only live foods, or at least frozen mosquitos.

i found him last night, swimming very irradically and startling my other fish...to get a better look i turned on the light and he still was swimming unusually, when he went by the filter he got stuck to the intake, which shouldnt have happened...so i caught him in a net and brought him to the surface to check him out, he has ick... which i dont know how, none of my other fish do, but he does, so he is in an isolation tank getting treatment and has calmed down and is eating again, so i think all will be well
