Loose Cory Eggs

Post by silvernes »

My last corydora spawn (layed yesterday, moved adults yesterday, moved eggs today) wasn't as adherant as usually. The eggs were just dropping off the side of the tank & weren't sticking to each other either.

Any suggestions?

The only thing I can think of is the an over-zelouse apple snails & some hungry guppies have been pecking at the eggs. Could this have caused the un-sticky eggs? Or could it be a dietary or water problem?

I havn't really made any changes to the tank recently

What species of Cory are they? some species produce eggs that have very little adhesion while others are so sticky they can hardly be moved.

Albino Corydora Aeneus.

Usually they are quite sticky & I hurt my back bending over backwards to pick them off the wall - but this time I couldn't even keep them all going in the same direction, they just fell off the tank wall!!

A thought occured that it may have to do with breeding times, this group of 3 corydoras have been breeding in increasingly shorter intervalls, they are almost 1/2 a week a head of my other large group that spawns every 4 weeks exactley.

Could it be the strain of too much breeding?

2 females & 1 male (I know not ideal, but out of 16 cory I got 2 males!! hows that for lucky? ) they were enjoying the soft acidic waters of my guppy tank, but I moved them in with my juvenile corydoras until I can figure what's wrong.

The other tank was fine when they were little it's a 15 so I think I'm going to pick up a dwarf species for them anyway. Their in a 30 with 1 other adult female & my 3 month and 2 month babies :D

Thanks,

C. aeneus (albino) eggs are not very sticky compared to normal C . aeneus, I rate the adhesion for the albino at 3 out of 10 compared to 7 out of 10 for the normal aeneus.

I ment this batch wasn't very sticky in comparisson to the other albino clutches I'd had earlier.

I'm interested in that other comment made though - does it take time for the eggs to set into their tank? I left this batch over night but in other cases the eggs had been left for a few days (like 2).
