Collection Equipment Available for the Catfish Convention

Post by pturley »

To all UK members of PC that will be attending the convention and will be joining the collecting trip. At least PC members traveling by air.

We are driving and I will likely sign up for (better hurry though!) the Aquarium/Smithsonian tour rather than collecting. As such, will have the following collection equipment available to loan out to those signed up for the collecting trip.

14" dip net with a 7 foot handle extension (11 foot reach total)
6' diameter cast net, 1/4" mesh (Not sure if these are legal in freshwaters in Maryland though?)
4' x 6' Minnow seine/Kick seine (Correction: It's 4' x4')
15" x 36" Aluminum framed Rapache'. Built very heavy duty, it's good for digging under logs, scooping up mounds of leaf litter and such.

May be able to dig up a minnow trap to bring along as well.

I'd prefer to loan them out to people that I am familiar with online rather than offer them up to PVAS. Nothing against the organizers at the PVAS handling this, just I'd like to know who's buying my beer for the weekend in the instance of abuse (when I drink, which is rarely, I drink Sam Adams BTW.).
Sincerely,
Paul E. Turley

Paul,

We can check with the trip organizer for what equipment is legal in MD. Thanks very much for offering to those travelling from PC the use of your goodies. I can vouch for both PVAS and PC that there will plenty of beer available and I'm sure plenty of buyers as well.

Now that would complicate things a bit wouldn't it considering we are ~five+ hours away!

To all, sorry to get your hopes up... ...it was a good idea anyway!

How's this instead: If we can leave Thursday, I throw a net or two in the car! If not, NEVERMIND!
Sincerely,
Paul E. Turley
