Panaque nigrolineatus Are there any breeding reports for these? Anyone have some advice for breeding them I'd like to try. thanks ~wayne

I just read a post farther down about how they make a bunch of loose wood debris chewing up driftwood and clog up filters real fast so I changed my mind but I'd still like to try and breed some type of loricariidae any suggestions?

The easiest are bristlenoses (Ancistrus species). And they're saleable because they're great algae eaters. There's a book on them, Bristlenoses: Catfish with Character, by Kathy Jinkings, published by TFH. I can get the ISDN if you're interested.

I'm not aware of any breeding reports. My impression is that they have not beeen bred in the aquarium.

From the Cat-e-log entry on P. nigrolineatus:

"No published information exists, but I have heard that the fish has been spawned in captivity using some form of tube in a large tank (approx. 125 US Gallons). A false dry season of two weeks (low, warm, still water) was used. Then the tank was topped off with cooler rainwater (refilling about 80%). Lots of meaty and veggie foods were offered. The pair spawned within days."

I was going to try it, but had to stop due to various reasons...space being one of them. Check out my old website for a little bit of info. One guy emailed me pics of an attempt of using a pond for breeding.

Well i now how to bread Panaque Nigrolineatus, but i am not going to say anything about this until my Panaque got eggs. I can say something about how to bread them after i'e got some eggs
