Etymology From the Greek notos, meaning back and oura, meaning tail. In reference to the confluent adipose and caudal fins. The specific epithet refers to the specimen's short, slender (lepto=slender) spines (canthus=spine).

General Remarks Inhabits gravel-sand runs and rocky riffles of creeks and small to medium rivers, near vegetation.
