| Etymology | Scleromystax: From the Greek sclero meaning hard and the Latin mystax meaning moustache. This species is named for Salmacis of Ovid's tale; this is an allusion to the slight difference between males and females when compared to the more noticeable differences observed in other species of Scleromystax. |
