Catfishgirl- Thank you for the advice, but he has a fierce temper and would never let me do it. I think that the food will disintegrate eventually. I certainly don't think it will kill him.

Oh come on, its nothing that bad . I've seen them accidentally eat large disgusting pieces of goldfish poop. Made me want to gag. A little bio-blend mini-pellets wont hurt them.
I may have to "fish" it out somehow. Any suggestions?

This morning I turned on my aquarium light to see my friendly, larger pleco nuzzling my smaller, very agressive plec. It was very surprising to see since the bigger one usually avoids the smaller at all costs.

I think its more or less the individual pleco in terms of its rate of respiration. I have two generic plecos and one of them does this regularly.

Perhaps you need more water agitation to increase the oxygen content.
