Maybe (I hope) #3 is female. Any other opinions?
I had them in my parents basement for the last 6 months, since I'v been traveling around.
So now I've moved them to my apartment and they'll get cleaner water and more food
Feed them raw. Also because usually they cook them with salt or other addition.
I always feed my plecos with peeled shrimps. I guess they could easily peel them theirself, but I could imagine they won't eat it and that makes a bigger mess in the tank.
If they are really 4" in size, I guess they are all female. Only number 2 looks a bit like a male. Looks like it got some more interopercular odontodes. Large L204 are easy to sex. Males get a lot of odontodes on the tail. And most of them show them all the time. If not, you can still feel it ...
Thanks for your replies. Personally I think 1 and 3 are female. That's why I have choosen those 3 out of my 6 specimen. Regarding head shape I think 2 looks much more male than 1. The head is wider at front and has an angle...that's what I imagine :d
But best indication, which I didn't tell before ...
I've moved 3 out of my 6 Pseudacanthicus sp. L97 into a bigger tank. There I wanna feed them well and try to breed them, now as they have reached a good size :d :d
Could you please help me to sex them? They measure 5.5 - 7" without tail fin. The whole group: http://img5.fotos ...
An update in a few months would definetly be interesting
Second fish is quite thin. This is because first has grown faster now and started to be territorial. As long as second one was bigger, I've never had that problem so I've separated them now.
On the weekend I've moved my six L97 into a bigger tank. I've used this oppurtunity to make some pictures. To be honest, they aren't that good... They measure 15 - 18cm (but #2 and #4 are only 12cm). Any suggestions what sex they are, please?
Definitely no L142. These are Hypancistrus, and very nice pattern. I suggest L136. How big are they?
Edit: Just watched the video. Looking at body shape,I tend to Hypancistrus contradens (mostly sold as L201 big spot).
Ah now I got it
Well at least I haven't seen that on my L354. But to be honest also didn't see that so far on the L20 I've seen.
But of both you don't get to see so many, since the import rate is quite low.
Not sure about sex. But the lighter one (on left) definetly looks like a L354 to me. Don't recognize the other one since it is very dark, but no L354.
So I'm quite sure you have two different plecos there.
In my breeding group of L204 the 4 males had many odontodes like those on your picture and the 3 females really had none. Differences in my group are easy to see and even easier to feel by hand if I take them out! My L204 had been imported like 7 years ago and are all about 12-14cm without filaments ...
Thanks for the answers. My tendency is also #3 male and #1, #2 female. But when I look at them like on the pictures or in my tank, I keep changing my opinion :)) I keep those three since about two years. And even I had no success in breeding yet, those Pseudacanthicus are great! In ...
Hi all, I keep three Psudacanthicus Leopardus where I got no idea about their sex. Some help would be really appreciated. Number 1 is 24cm, number 2 is 26cm and number 3 is 28cm. Thanks in advance!
I've talked to Henrique and he told me they got like seven (I don't remember if it's really seven) aspects which they take care off for each species. Each point they rate from 1 - 10. Between 1 - 4 that species past for that point, 5 - 7 they take a closer look and if the species is between 8 - 10 ...
The only thing I agree with Mats is: Number 1 def. male :-BD
Comparing head-, bodyshape and the thickness of pectoral I'd say 3 could be a female and the rest look male to me. I have a breeding group of L200 low fin. Always had problems to sex them. Last week I had the 3rd spawn from them ...
